Madam,

We all know that local authorities are under tremendous pressure to meet budget deficits and, on the face of it, it feels good to be asked for our opinion about the proposed cuts to services. However, I believe that the choices we are being asked to make are impossible if we are to maintain healthy communities and an environment appealing to tourism. We must ask ourselves what is the purpose of our local council? Answer, to provide services to the local community. In these difficult economic times the council should look to restructure the organization more effectively to make the required savings and not to the level of services. No other business in the world would cut its products or services when under financial pressure. They would effectively restructure and improve products and services.

If the current approach continues we will have a deprived area lacking basic services, a reduction in tourism, income etc, and a well-paid council with nobody left to provide services for.

Yours etc

Phil Morgan,Llanegryn,Tywyn.
