Madam,

Re the letter from Joyce Porter (‘We need to appreciate excellent work done under sheer pressure’) in response to my own letter (‘Disgraceful situation at eye clinic not being addressed’) about North Road Eye Clinic in Aberystwyth.

It’s a shame people misunderstand the written word. My letter did not contain any criticism whatsoever of the staff in North Road Eye Clinic.

Quite the contrary, I sympathise with them.

The fault lies higher up within Hywel Dda Health Board for failing to provide sufficient qualified people and failing to provide a service.

The front-line staff have always been first-class, but they simply cannot cope with the volume of patients, hence my criticism.
