Cymdeithas Aberaeron
THE Aberaeron Society will be marking two important bicentenaries in the history of Aberaeron and the surrounding area with an exhibition in Tabernacl Chapel vestry.
‘Hwylio i Diroedd Newydd – Sailing to New Lands’ commemorates the emigration of several families from the area to America and celebrates the continued links with those they left behind. They set sail from Aberaeron to Liverpool where they joined a larger ship bound for Baltimore, from where they trekked overland to Ohio, where many settled.
Around the same time Missionaries from Neuaddlwyd Chapel set sail for Madagascar where the church they founded still thrives. The exhibition also includes a commemoration of their endeavours and legacy.
All are welcome, the exhibition is free and will be open from 11am to 4pm every day except Sundays from Tuesday, 12 June to Saturday, the 7 July

Church meeting
DELEGATES from across Wales meet this week (6-9 June) in Aberaeron at the Annual Meetings of the Union of Independent Churches, representing nonconformist Christians who meet in 400 chapels.
Also present will be 30 visitors from Madagascar, as part of the 200th celebration of the Welsh mission to that country in 1818.
Three young Welshmen accomplished the incredible task of learning the oral Malagasy language, devising a written form, and then translating the Bible.
In Madagascar, they are recognised as ‘the fathers of the nation.’
About 140 local people will recount the story in a dramatic presentation on Friday evening, and on Saturday the celebration service at a chapel in Aberaeron will be webcast live by the Union’s filming unit, so that congregations in Madagascar can view and hear the event.
A year-long appeal will be launched to raise substantial funds for projects in Madagascar, visited by Robin Samuel and Rhodri Darcy, two of the Union’s staff, last year.
Rev Geraint Tudur retires in September after 12 years as the Union’s General Secretary. Rev Dyfrig Rees has been elected to succeed him.
Two Notices of Motions will be debated on Thursday.

ii) Call on shops to expand the range of goods they sell with the Fairtrade Foundation logo.
