THE latest community news from Aberaeron

Bridge club

THE club played in the Mid Wales Simultaneous Event to decide the ladies’ and men’s pairs on 13 September.

Four other mid Wales clubs played in the event using the same set of hands: Welshpool, Knighton, Cardigan and Aberystwyth.

The club winners were Keith Bellamy and Dai Hayes, who were fourth in the overall mid Wales rankings and the runners-up in the men’s pairs.

George Kinchington and John Evans were second (9th overall) and Ron Jones and Mike Fellows third (10th overall).

The mens’s pairs overall winners were Herbie Rowley and Nigel Symons Jones, who played the hands earlier in the week at Cardigan.

Virginia and Valerie Wylie were the highest placed pair of ladies among the Aberaeron pairs, coming 14th overall.

And Virginia and Valerie were also the winners on the 20 September.

The rest of the results for that evening unfortunately vanished into the ether when the computer decided to switch itself off.

The winners on 27 September were Keith Bellamy and Jen Harris, with Herbie Rowley and Nigel Symons Jones second and Dai Hayes and Ron Jones third.

Afternoon tuition for beginners and improvers continues at 1pm on Wednesdays at the Royal British Legion Hall.

The club meets in the hall every Thursday at 6.4pm. Newcomers are welcome.

For further information, phone the club secretary on 01239 811718.
