Bridge Club

WINNERS at the Christmas Party were Keith Bellamy and Gill Howells, with Lee Collier and newcomer Mike Fellows second and Dawn Claxton and Bob Tilley third.

Jen Harris and John Valentine were the only ones to bid and make two slams.

They also faced a sacrificial 7C which they doubled collecting 1100 points.

They proved less successful in bidding and playing No Trump games.

In one hand, they were doubled in 3NT and went down 1700, the Ace and Queen of Hearts being inadequate ‘stops’ for a six card heart suit held by the right hand opponent.

The club provided an excellent buffet for what was a very enjoyable evening.

Thanks are also due to the Feathers Hotel whose chef conjured up a magnificent fruit cheesecake.

Aberaeron Bridge Club meets in the Royal British Legion Hall each Thursday at 6.45pm – newcomers are eagerly welcomed.

The next meeting will be on 4 January.

Afternoon tuition for beginners and improvers will recommence the afternoon before starting at 1pm in the Feathers Hotel.

For further information, phone the club secretary on 01239 811718.

Poppy Appeal

THE organisers of the Aberaeron and District Poppy Appeal would like to thank everyone who contributed this year to the collection of £5,462.37.

Without this invaluable help, the RBL Poppy Appeal would be unable to continue their vital welfare and benevolent work.

Carols Evening

LAST Wednesday, a packed Aberaeron Memorial Hall (see picture above) enjoyed a superb festive evening of carol, readings, mulled wine and good cheer, hosted by Elizabeth Evans and Caryl Glyn, with the audience heartily singing to the accompaniment of Aberystwyth Brass Ensemble conducted by Alan Phillips.

The Friends of the Hall Christmas Fair provided a marvellous array of festive gifts, preserves and decorations to raise money to support the Hall.

Town Improvements

DURING the recent Carols Evening, in the presence of members of the town’s Fire Brigade, the Hall hosted the Aberaeron Town Improvements Committee Grand Draw, in aid of the Aberaeron First Responder Vehicle, which proved to be a great success.

The appeal was concluded with chairman John Lewis and secretary Rhodri Jones drawing the lucky numbers.

The winners were Mrs Morgan from Ffosyffin, Mrs Edwards from Aberaeron, Mrs Picket from Somerset, Mr Wright from Talsarn and Mr and Mrs Bowers from Lampeter.

On behalf of the committee, the Appeal fundraiser Huw Evans thanked the sponsors whose amazing generosity made the Grand Draw possible, and ultimately so very successful for such an important and worthwhile cause.
