THE exhibition by the Penrhyndeudraeth Art Group which has been on display at the Maenofferen Gallery comes to an end on 15 January, and what will be there after has as yet not been made known.


BLAENAU Ffestiniog Town Council has agreed to a planning application to the replacement of the existing single-storey office and welfare unit at the Tanygrisiau Power Station with a two-storey office and welfare unit as the existing building is not suitable for provision of welfare for the workforce.

A planning application to convert the former Tai Eryri office at Park Square into four self-contained apartments has be objected as car parking spaces can not be provided and the local has already serious parking problems that exist at Park Square.


IT has been announced that the three new posts as part-time project youth workers in the area have been appointed by Gwynedd Council, namely Nia Haf Jones, Ffion Meleri Hicks and Barry Evans, and that the town council will fund the service.


ANTUR Stiniog has made an application to create another three new downhill bike trails at Llechwedd, which has been welcomed locally.

One of the new trails will include a ‘green’ beginners run.

The bike trails, which are popular with bikers from all over the UK, was first opened in 2014 and employs 19 staff.

With this addition to the site it could create another six new members of staff.


AFTER 36 years as a nurse and later a district nurse, Gillian McNally of Jones Street has taken an early retirement.

She began her career being trained as a nurse at Bronglais Hospital at Aberystwyth, and from there she went nursing at a North London Hospital before returning home and took a nursing post, and later a sister, at Dolgellau Hospital where she spent 27 years.

For the last three years she had taken a post of a district nurse in her hometown.

She was thanked for her care of her patients over the years and wished the best for the future.

Cafodd brentisiaeth fel peintiwr gyda chwmni Ellis Griffith ac adroddodd am y gwahanol agweddau o’r gwaith - mewn cyfnod cyn sôn am Iechyd a Diogelwch.

Gorffennodd drwy sôn am ei gyfnod gyda Hogia’r Moelwyn yn teithio ar draws Cymru.

LOCAL darts player Heber Thomas won the Dolgellau Open darts event by beating the Welsh international player Martin Phillips in the final.


THE Moelwyn Choir members have been invited to be part of a musical rendition to commemorate the Royal Welch Regiment 140th anniversary of the Battle of Rourkes Drift against the Zulus.

Also invited are the Meibion Dysynni, Dwyfor, Prysor and Harlech choirs and groups.

It is reported that 40 musicians and two drummers from the regiment will be present at the event which will take place at Harlech Castle on Sunday, 20 January, with a practice session to be held for the choirs at Llanbedr on the previous Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, the Moelwyn Choir has announced the death of one of its longest-serving members, Vernon Wyn Jones, now of Porthmadog but formerly of Blaenau Ffestiniog and who had been a faithful member of the choir for over 50 years.
