Gardening Club

THE open meeting in October was well attended by members and visitors from other gardening clubs.

Members enjoyed a wonderful illustrated talk by John Shipton of Shipton Bulbs on the Plants of Western China.

After the talk, everyone indulged in a delicious buffet which was provided by the members of the club.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, 1 November, and is entitled Jump into Spring by Roger Spencer from Trefhedyn Garden Centre in Newcastle Emlyn.

Drefach Felindre Gardening Club meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month.

Free refreshments are served following the speaker’s presentation and club members bring along items for the raffle, such as spare plants and garden produce. Members also organise a seed swap.

There is a warm welcome for everyone and guests are invited for free on their first visit. Annual membership costs just £10.

In addition, the club holds two plant sales every year; the first during May and the second at the Drefach Felindre Carnival.

Donations of plants, gardening items and garden produce are much appreciated for these events and proceeds go towards community projects in Drefach Felindre such as the annual Horticultural and Craft Show held each September.

The club also arranges visits to award-winning and historic gardens, member’s gardens and specialist nurseries throughout the year.

They also have a Dye Bed project linked with Ysgol Penboyr and the National Wool Museum in the village.
