Exhibition

THREE restored paintings important to the history of Horeb will be exhibited in the chapel vestry on Thursday, 21 September, at 7.30pm.

Rev Richard Humphreys was the first minister of the Calvinistic Methodists in the village at the beginning of the 19th century. His portrait and one of his wife, Anne, had been part of the vestry for decades together with a larger portrait of the Rev Edward Morgan, the second minister.

He was born near Llanidloes in 1817 and died in Dyffryn in 1871.

Last year the paintings were restored and reframed.

William H Owen, a native of Dyffryn now living in Bangor, will be explaining their background and concentrating on the life and work of Rev Morgan.

A booklet which includes photos of the portraits and another one of Rev Morgan, which is kept in the National Library in Aberystwyth, will be on sale after the event.
