THE latest community news from Llandysul
Twinning society
LLANDYSUL a’r Fro travelled to the annual festival in the city of Kemper (Quimper in French), Brittany.
They also celebrated 30 years of the twinning between Llandysul and Plogeneg ‘Plogennec’ in French, which is about five miles from Kemper.
Two new signs were unveiled (pictured above) outside the village, showing the names of Plogneg and Llandysul, like there are in Llandysul.
An evening had been arranged in the village for members and friends of the Twinning Society to meet the Llandysul people and to share happy memories of friendship between the two villages since 1988, when the official twinning ceremony was held at Tysul Hall; the official twinning ceremony in Plogennog was in 1989.

Library
LLANDYSUL Library Supporters’ Group is organising an open day on Saturday at Canolfan Ceredigion in Llandysul, along the other users of the centre.
Chairperson Lesley Parker said: “We want to celebrate libraries week.
“We realised that we would have a better event if we invited other users of the building to take part and that way we can show what Canolfan Ceredigion has to offer in Llandysul and the surrounding area, so we decided to hold an open day with lots of activities.”
Those include a coffee morning in the church hall with music by a new gospel singing group who have just started weekly practices there. Throughout the morning, there will be children’s crafts.
In the afternoon Lesley Parker will give a talk about ‘The Digital Library’ and Jane Kerr will give a talk on ‘Local Resources for Family History Research’.
A tutor from Dysgu Bro will be in attendance with information on their computer classes and will give individual taster sessions.
Throughout the day the Llandysul Local History Society will have a display of photos, local census returns, local maps and a history of local shops and pubs. Finally, the library volunteers will keep the library open until 3pm.
The open day runs from 10am until 3pm on Saturday and everyone is welcome to drop in.
Shwmaeathon
IT’S Shwmae Su’mae day on Monday, 15 October, and this year, Llandysul business SaySomethingin.com will be at the centre of a worldwide Welsh event - the 24-hour Shwmaeathon.
In the early hours of Monday morning, Iestyn ap Dafydd will start the Shwmaeathon - a live online chat, talking with Welsh speakers from all round the world.
SaySomethingin.com is the home of the successful SaySomethinginWelsh Welsh course, and Iestyn will be speaking to hundreds of SSiW learners as well as from-birth speakers, in Wales and abroad.
The sponsored event will be held at the Calon Tysul community leisure centre, where Iestyn is a trustee.
The money raised will go towards developing services there, which include the new Clwb Calon children’s activities.
“We use technology to teach Welsh to people anywhere in the world,” said Iestyn, “so I decided to use the same technology to have a global conversation in Welsh. It’s never been easier to learn Welsh, nor to help Welsh learners by speaking with them, wherever you are.”
