THE March meeting was held at the Porth Hotel, on the 12th at 2pm. The chair, Mary Williams, opened the meeting, with a warm welcome to all.
After all the notices were read and discussed, Mrs Williams introduced the speaker for the afternoon, Phillip Ainsworth, who gave a very interesting talk on languages and cultures of various countries.
They learned that it is advisable to also learn the culture of a country as well as the language in case it is considered rude or insulting to ‘smile’ in that particular country for example.
Once the talk had concluded, a vote of thanks was given by Gwyneth Davies.
As this was a celebration of St David’s Day, the afternoon tea of Welsh Cakes and Bara Brith was served by the Porth.
Many thanks were extended to the Porth and also to Doreen Price who donated the Bara Brith.
The next meeting will be held on 9 April at the Porth Hotel at 2pm, with Philip Davies of Aberaeron as the speaker.
