Calon Tysul

THE Junior Aquathlon took place recently.

The sun was shining so perfect conditions for a swimming and running race. Quite a few of the young people had their first experience of taking part in a multi-discipline race and there were smiles on everyone’s faces.

Then on a fine and dry Sunday morning it was the turn of the seniors to race around Llandysul in the first ‘Sprint Triathlon’. Sixteen laps in the pool, 16km on the bike and then a 5km run to finish. The standard of competition was high with the fastest competitors crossing the finish line in less than an hour.

All proceeds go towards maintaining the swimming pool and leisure centre, so the support is always appreciated.

A huge thank you was given to everyone who gave their time to volunteer at the Aquathlon on Saturday and the Triathlon on Sunday. It is impossible to hold an event like this without a lot of voluntary help.

Reunion

A SPECIAL reunion took place recently of the Wales Slovakia league Jaroslav Rusnak, who played just one season in the Cardiganshire league, came back to Llandysul for the first time in 23 years.

Peter Davies, who was then chairman, explained that on the Friday night before the match there was a knock at the door and Jaro - as he was known, and his son stood there.

It was a complete but a wonderful surprise, Peter said: “We had a long discussion - all about football and it was great to see him. Jaro and his son had flown into Gatwick airport and he hired a car to drive to Llandysul, he had also arranged to meet up with a few players he played football with and he went to watch Llandysul play on the Saturday afternoon. Jaro, for 23 years, had kept his sponsor top - Wilkes Head - and he had a number of photographs on his mobile of the time in Llandysul; he had clearly enjoyed his time in Llandysul and I am sure everyone was delighted to see him.”

History society

THEY had nearly 70 visitors (who signed in) to the open day recently.

The big question is: what is the weight of the canon ball? The canon ball weighed 6.36 lbs or 2.88 kg.

No one guessed the weight exactly, but two people guessed the same, closest weight. They put both names in a hat and drew out the winner, Pete Ashby, who won ‘Historic Wales from the Air’.
