Power house

A JOURNEY in Words and Music through the Bardic World of West Wales with poet Diarmuid Johnson and musician Stacey Blythe on Saturday, 13 May, at 7.30pm. Tickets: £7, Concessions: £5, from Siop Ffab, Llandysul or on the door; it is a bilingual show.

Diarmuid Johnson and Stacey Blythe invite you to join them on a journey through the bardic world of West Wales.

Poems in Welsh, with English translations, accompanied by harp, flute, accordion and piano, weave a story that tells of the people, of the land and of a struggle to survive and flourish between sea and mountain in West Wales.

From the rugged uplands of Tregaron and Ffair Rhos where the River Teifi finds its source, to the coastal pastures of Aberporth, the poets and bards of Ceredigion open for us a tradition that stretches back centuries, and celebrates man’s covenant with the earth and the soil.

The dulcet tones of Diarmuid’s wooden flutes mingle with Stacey’s charismatic voice to breathe new life into poems and songs that have long lain on the pages of a forgotten book. Join the poets and musicians on their journey at The Powerhouse on 13 May. You may never return!

The emphasis is on the works of the bards of Ceredigion during the 20th Century (Bois y Cilie and Dic Jones, along with the bards of the Ceredigion hills Gruffydd Jones and John Roderick Rees).

Some of the original poems are read and recited by Diarmuid, along with some translations. Stacey sings to the accompaniment of the harp and accordion.
