PRESIDENT Jan Spicer welcomed a new resident to the meeting on 14 July.

However, sadly, she also reported that Betty Grant’s husband had passed away.

Jan then introduced Val Vine of Barmouth WI, who was the delegate for the Artro Group at the NFWI AGM at the Echo Arena in Liverpool in June. Val reported the results of the voting on the Resolutions.

At Barmouth WI’s Summer Fair, the Artro Group took £103.50 on the tombola.

For Llanfair WI’s Craft Fair in October, Jean Westerman has agreed to judge the craft section.

After dealing with the newsletter and correspondence, Jan and Pauline briefly spoke about the recent visit to Barmouth Lifeboat Station.

This was a most interesting afternoon, made even more exciting when there was a callout for the inshore lifeboat to rescue a kayaker and a windsurfer with a broken board, standing neck-deep in water up-river.

While the successful rescue was being carried out, other crew members showed the group the lifeboat kits, the offshore lifeboat with its array of technical equipment, and patiently answered numerous questions.

A donation has been sent in thanks and appreciation of the work of the RNLI. The outing was rounded off by a delicious afternoon tea at the Min-y-Môr restaurant.

Harlech Horticultural Society’s Summer Show will be held on Saturday, 19 August. Jan has a brochure that can be viewed.

The First Responders will give a display of how to use a defibrillator at the fire station on Saturday, 29 July, from 9am to noon. The fire station staff also offer free fire checks in your home.

Jan then welcomed Maureen Owen, whose subject was poetry.

Quoting many working-class anecdotes and northern poems, both humorous and thought-provoking, Maureen entertained the group and touched their hearts. She was warmly thanked by Carole.

Maureen and Val Vine joined the group for a summer tea, provided by the members, to round off the season.
