THE group met on Monday evening, 6 November, when it was lovely to see Capel-y-Groes vestry full with members of neighbouring branches of the WI, other local organisations and residents who had all been invited to see Donald Morgan, the skilled and award-winning flower-arranger from Llanrhystud.

An entertaining evening was spent in his company as he demonstrated his flair to create two colourful flower arrangements.

He also offered plenty of advice: for example, placing roses in boiling water for 20 seconds and then in cold water extends their longevity; gerbera should not be placed in more than 1½ tablespoonfuls of water so as to ensure their stems and flowers remain strong; carnation flower heads should be rubbed to encourage them to open.

Following the demonstration, Carol Thomas, president of Llanwnnen WI, gave the vote of thanks before refreshments were served and the raffle was drawn.

At the end of the evening a short business meeting was conducted and the monthly competition was judged.

The winner of the oldest family photograph was Carol Thomas, with the second prize being awarded to Gwen Davies and third to Avril Jones.
