Llanwnnen WI were kindly invited to convene at Troed-y-Bryn, the home of John and Avril Jones, on Monday evening, 4 December, and a warm-hearted welcome was received.

In the first instance, the monthly meeting was held with Carol Thomas presiding and during discussion of the agenda items, members enjoyed non-alcoholic mulled wine prepared by Avril.

The president then welcomed two former members of Llanwnnen WI back to the branch for one evening, namely Delyth Jenkins, Pen-banc, Ffos-y-ffin and her mother Averina Lewis, formerly of Talgrwn, Llanwnnen.

An interesting evening was spent with Delyth giving an account of her winning the World’s Best Bara Brith competition and she referred to the trials and tribulations leading to her success.

She also showed a sample of her collection of colourful tea-cloths from around the globe.

At the end of the evening light refreshments were served that had been prepared by Avril and everyone was also given the opportunity to taste the prize-winning bara brith.

The evening’s raffle was drawn with Doris Jones winning the Christmas coaster given by Carol.

Delyth then judged the monthly competition, namely a Christmas gift tag and the winner was Carol Thomas, with Gwen Davies in second place and Irene Jackson in third place.

Before departing the president thanked Delyth and Averina for an entertaining evening and the hosts for their welcome and generosity.
