Garden Club

THE next meeting of Machynlleth and District Garden Club will take place on Tuesday, 2 May, at the Bowling Club, starting at 7.30pm. Jenny Steel, a plant ecologist and author specialising in wildlife gardening, will give a talk on ‘A Rural Garden for Wildlife’. New members and interested visitors welcome.

Bowls

CROWNED Montgomeryshire County Bowling Association league champions 31 times, including a period of 17 successive seasons, and 18 times county league cup winners, Machynlleth bowlers are as keen as ever to extend their record-breaking successes.

The Machynlleth squad starts its 2017 campaign with Kerry the visitors to Llynlloedd green on Thursday, 8 May, before travelling to Llanidloes on 15 May. They have drawn Newtown in a double-leg second-round tie in the league cup, having received a first-round bye.

Meanwhile Maglona kick-off their programme in division two with a visit to Abermule, prior to hosting Llanfair Caereinion seven days later. Llanfair will also be Maglona’s opponents in the first round of the league cup on 17 and 31 May.

Machynlleth ladies are looking forward to a competitive season in the Montgomeryshire County Ladies League as they open with a home match against Newtown.And, in similar vein, the squad for the county ladies’ Wednesday league are gearing up for a positive outcome.

Bowlers from the men’s and ladies’ teams will join forces with confidence for another fruitful season, seeking to retain the county mixed league title.

The club will, once again, field two veterans’ teams, Machynlleth and Maglona, in the two sections of the county veterans’ league.

The club is also extending a warm welcome to free coaching sessions every Friday at 6pm. Fully qualified coaches will be on hand for players of all ages. Please telephone 01654 702628 or call at the club for more details.

Fundraising success

ORGANISED by Machynlleth Bowling Club, a recent prize bingo raised an excellent £425 for Future Play Machynlleth, who are raising funds to enhance the Plas-based children’s playground.

Club secretary Andrew Fleming would like to extend thanks to all who attended, donated prizes and also to those who helped on the evening and leading up to the event.

More fundraising for Future Play is on its way as, on 6 May, the club presents an evening with Alan Kennedy ex-Liverpool footballer. Phone the club on 01654 702628 for further info or on Facebook, Mach Bowls.

Edible Mach Maethlon

EDIBLE Mach Maethlon are looking to recruit lead volunteers to deliver volunteer sessions through the season.

If you’ve got the thirst for more gardening skills, want to receive free and useful training, or want valuable experience as a community project volunteer-leader then we have a great opportunity.

To celebrate Blossom Day on 13 May, join them for a day of celebration at a site of two of your local growers in Ffriddgate. Lynn Williams will be taking us through her wonderful variety of fruit trees, and we’ll all have the change to admire the blossom. All welcome. Refreshments available.

Champions League

MACHYNLLETH Football Club has an exciting prize draw currently available.

The lucky winner will receive two tickets for the Champions League final at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, on 3 June. The two tickets (sealed together) are valued at £390 each.

Flower Show Trip

ELISE Payne is organising a coach trip to Malvern Spring Flower Show on Saturday, 13 May.

Book Club
