Coffee morning
THE Jobcentre will be hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday, 29 September, from 10am to noon.
A warm invitation is extended to all to enjoy tea, coffee or a cold drink and cake (gluten free available).
There is no admission fee but donations will be gratefully appreciated.
There will also be a fundraising raffle held.
Bowls
MACHYNLLETH failed to hold on to the Montgomeryshire CBA County Mixed League title as, with a winning run to close their campaign, Berriew overtook the 2016 champions to secure an eight-point advantage.
Machynlleth (no points), although taking the league’s runners-up slot, saw their season stutter to a close with a 29-shot home defeat to third-placed Carno (seven points).
In the Montgomeryshire CBA Ladies’ Wednesday League, despite a great seven-game unbeaten run to end a strong season, they hold third place, two points adrift of leaders Carno and Guilsfield, each with one game to play.
Sewing the Tales of Jane Austen
ARTS Connection and the Laura Ashley Foundation are pleased to present Sewing the Tales of Jane Austen.
Taking inspiration from Jane Austen’s stories, writing and sewing, learn how to embroider, sew and other textile skills with a 10-week block of sessions.
They start on Wednesday, 27 September (3.30pm to 6pm). Booking is essential.

MACHYNLLETH A gave a good account of themselves despite taking a 22-18 defeat at their Montgomeryshire rivals, Newtown, in Division One of the North Wales Association Interleague.
They remain in sixth place after week eight of 10.
Meanwhile, with their home game against Amlwch postponed, Machynlleth B remained in sixth place in Division Two, one point from fifth place.

IN the period 16 August to 7 September, under delegated powers, county planners approved the following applications in the Machynlleth area: Listed Building Consent for internal works to include the replacement of a window and door in cottage two, and relocation of the bathroom and kitchen at 1 and 2 Pensarn, Glas Pwll,; consent to display advertisements (36 signs – four illuminated and 32 non-illuminated), Co-operative supermarket, Heol Maengwyn.
