Eisteddfod

THE 102nd Eisteddfod, arranged by the Trefeglwys Eisteddfod Committee, was held on Saturday, 7 October.

The adjudicators were Bronwen Morgan of Llangeitho who judged Recitation and Literaure, Odette Jones, Treharris who judged the Music with Ruth Jenkins adjudicating the Dancing.

The children’s competitions during the afternoon were very well supported by the local school Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon with up to 15 competing in some competitions.

The cup for the most promising performer and the shield for the best soloist went to the very talented performer seven year old Aria Davies of Llanbrynmair.

Bethan Evans, Llanidloes won the cup in the off stage competitions for her painting depicting “Our World”.

The winner of the Eisteddfod Chair was Dai Rees Davies, Rhydlewis for his poem about the “Hiraeth” he feels for the life of his youth. The accompanists were Alwenna Nutting, Aberhafesp at the afternoon session and John Moore, Shrewsbury in the evening.

Bethan Lloyd Owen and Gwynfryn Evans were conducting the proceedings.

The president this year was Hefin Bennett, Old Hall who has given over 50 years as compere.

He spoke of the memories he had of the eisteddfod and the importance of fostering and supporting the talents of our young people.
