A Machynlleth community project has been chosen as a local cause for Co-op’s Local Community Fund, giving local people the chance to earn money for the scheme.

Edible Mach Maethlon, a community group centred around food and growing food, has been selected as one of the ‘local causes’, which means Co-op members can select the group as their local cause and when they buy items from Co-op, one per cent of the cost will go to Edible Mach Maethlon.

Current Co-op members can either sign in online or phone up Co-op to select Mach Maethlon as their local cause, or can become a Co-op member for £1 and then select the group as their favoured local cause, with the scheme running until the end of October next year.

Matt Swan, Edible Mach Maethlon co-ordinator, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Co-op as a local cause and we hope many people in our community who shop at Co-op will choose us.

“This will help to fund our work keeping Machynlleth’s edible spaces bursting with fruit and veg for anyone to pick, and building community around food-growing and food-sharing.”
