A WOMAN who died in a farmhouse fire near Abermagwr has been named locally as Marianne Taylor.
Police and the fire service are investigating the cause of the fire, which fire crews from Aberystwyth, Tregaron and Aberaeron spent more than four hours bringing under control on Wednesday, 11 January, after receiving reports at 10.36am.
Police said the next of kin of the occupant and the coroner for Ceredigion Peter Brunton had been informed after a woman’s body was found inside the property at Cwmnewidion Isaf, an old farm and stables near Cnwch Coch.
The woman who died in the blaze has been named locally as the owner of the farm, Marianne Taylor, thought to be in her mid-70s.
Neighbours expressed their sadness at the death of a lady who is said to have lived on her own and “kept herself to herself”.
“Marianne was a very lonesome lady who kept herself to herself,” said a neighbour who only gave his name as Chris. “It is very sad really the way she went.”
Another neighbour who wished not to be named said: “It is so sad. Marianne lived here for around 35 years and was a very quiet but nice lady.”
Miss Taylor is understood to have leased her stables to a local horse owner, and has allowed film-makers and festival organisers to use her land in recent years.
