Bin bag collections in the Llanrhystud area are “regularly cancelled”, it has been claimed.

Hannah Williams, who lives at Rhyd-rosser, near Llanrhystud, complained that she was having to store old bags of rubbish, use an old mop bucket to store food waste and clean up mess in the hedges from uncollected bags.

Hannah said she raised the issues with the council, but has not seen any action, and says her complaints are being “ignored”.

She feared the situation was likely to be replicated in rural areas across the county.

She said: “The current issue appears to be directly linked to the new collection arrangements.

“After Christmas, the rubbish was meant to be collected a day late, this would have been the Friday after Christmas.

“Having put my rubbish out on the correct day, I came home to find shredded paper and lavatory rolls scattered across the lane after a three-day break to visit family in England.

“The first time my rubbish was collected after Christmas was in the new year."

After a recent collection was cancelled, Hannah contacted the council’s complaints line and the waste department, but said she received no response.

A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: “The roll-out of the new waste collection service across Ceredigion is nearing successful completion.

“It has been very well received on the whole. However, we are grateful for the public’s understanding while we work to solve any issues.

“Once the service is fully established, we are confident that it will allow our waste to be dealt with in the best way possible from environmental and financial perspectives and will support other efforts to keep Ceredigion clean.”
