A GROUP of Year 7 pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Penglais have been asked to self-isolate following the confirmation of a Covid-19 case at the school.

Ceredigion County Council confirmed this morning that a case of coronavirus has been identified at the Aberystwyth secondary school and a contact group in year 7 had been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

A spokesperson for Ceredigion Council said: “”All confirmed contacts of the positive case must remain at home for 14 days to reduce the possible spread of the virus to family, friends and the wider community.

"The pupils will be taught remotely for this period.

Due to the strong procedures that have been put in place in the school, only a small number of pupils are being asked to self-isolate.

“The parents of all these pupils have been contacted by the school and will also be supported by Ceredigion Contact Tracing Team.

“The council urges all parents to refer their children for a test if they develop any of the symptoms, such as a high temperature, a new continuous cough or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste.”
