A man who spat, urinated and defecated in a police station cell while in custody in Aberystwyth has been fined more than £500.

Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court heard on 24 November that Owen Sproston, of Trefeddian Hotel, Aberdyfi was arrested on 4 November on Great Darkgate Street for resisting and obstructing PC Parry.

After being arrested, the court heard, the 24-year-old spat inside the caged area of the police van before being taken to Aberystwyth police station.

When at the station, Sproston damaged the cell in which he was being held by “spitting, urinating and defecating”, magistrates heard.

He was fined £175 for each offence for a total of £525 and to pay compensation of £252.

He must also pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85 as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £52.
