A Machynlleth man who seriously assaulted a woman has been jailed for a year.
Stephen Fenner, of 2 Llynlloedd Lane, appeared for sentencing before Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on 12 August.
The 36-year-old had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to the assault occasioning actual bodily harm of a woman in Machynlleth on 22 July.
Magistrates sentenced Fenner – who was already the subject of a community order - to 12 months in prison.
The court heard the “nature and seriousness” of the offence meant that “that only a custodial sentence can be justified” and the incident had a “lasting impact” on the victim.
Fenner was made the subject of a five year restraining order and must also pay £500 compensation and £85 costs.
