An Aberaeron man has been fined more than £2,000 and ordered to pay hundreds in compensation after admitting assault and criminal damage.

Darren Palmer, of Freshfields, Alban Square, appeared at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 18 November.

The 55-year-old pleaded guilty to the assault by beating of Meurig Lloyd in Aberaeron on Saturday, 24 July at the hearing.

He also admitted damaging a £32 Husqvarna T-shirt belonging to the victim during the same incident.

Magistrates fined Palmer £2,154 for the assault, with no separate penalty for the criminal damage offence.

He was also ordered to pay compensation to Mr Lloyd of £545 for the assault, and a further £32 for the damaged T-shirt.

Palmer was also ordered to pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85 as well as a surcharge of £190.
