A well-known Aberystwyth pub landlord will be remembered at an event organised to raise money for Cancer Research Wales.
Basil Evans, who used to run the Ship and Castle, and the Black Lion in Llanbadarn, died in 2009.
To mark what would have been his 80th birthday this year and to raise money for the charity, Basil’s daughter Beth has organised an evening of entertainment which will take place in June.
And Beth hopes those who remember her father, who also worked as a taxi driver and as a shopkeeper, will come together to celebrate Basil’s life.
“I’m organising a charity event in memory of my father, Basil Evans, of the Ship and Castle,” said Beth.
“He would have been 80 on 17 June and it is 10 years since he passed in November 2009."
She added: “He was always full of life and loved socialising and enjoyed nothing more than being with his friends, whether it was jiving with the ladies round the dance floor, down the rugby club supporting Aber Town or at the harbour messing about with boats and doing things like the Celtic Challenge as the cox for Aberystwyth Rowing club.”
Aberystwyth Rugby Club is the venue for Beth’s charity night, which takes place on Friday, 7 June at 7pm.
There will be live music and entertainment from Sgarmes and Paul Dark as well as a raffle, auction and hog roast.
Tickets cost £10, with all money going to Cancer Research Wales, and can be purchased from Cerdd Ystwyth until 4 June or by calling 07496 348059.
Those who can’t make the event can still donate to Beth’s JustGiving page, www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Basil-Evans
