A PETITION to teach history from a Welsh perspective has amassed nearly 1,000 signatories.
Elfed Wyn Jones, of Trawsfynydd, started the internet petition on 13 June and quickly found support across the country, including that of local MP Liz Saville Roberts.
His petition, ‘Change the National Curriculum and teach Welsh history, from a Welsh perspective, in our Primary, Secondary and Sixth form Schools’, is directed to the Welsh Assembly and would allow for more specific study of how Wales has evolved over time.
The former Ysgol y Moelwyn pupil explained: “I would like to see a unified Welsh history curriculum, teaching every aspect of Welsh history, from pre-Roman up to the present, so that everything is taught about the rich history of Wales, from local to national history.”
Liz Saville Roberts said: “We have our own education system in Wales.
"That education system should evidently treat the history of Wales as a nation.
"I fully support this petition and would encourage others who want to see our nation’s history recognised in this way to back that call.”
