MACHYNLLETH welcomed its “largest ever” sixth form as pupils returned to school this month.

Leaders at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen revealed that the sixth form had grown to a total of 85 students this year, including 42 students joining Year 12.

The number is “the largest it has ever been”, the school said, with 14 of those students joining the school from other local schools, including Ysgol Bro Idris, Dolgellau and Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn.

Llifon Ellis, head of sixth form at the school, said that “having such a large sixth form is great for both the school and the community as a whole”.

“These large numbers along with this summer’s fantastic A-level results is proof of the high-quality education that is provided here at Bro Hyddgen,” he said.

“Nearly every student who applied for a place at university received an offer from universities across Britain and we wish them well in their continued studies.”
