Schools in Ceredigion will remain open until 18 December, Ceredigion council confirmed today as another school asked a group of pupils to self-isolate.

Some schools in the Caerphilly area announced this week that they are to close a week early for the Christmas break, but Ceredigion council confirmed today that its schools will remain open for another two weeks.

In a statement, the council said: “Originally, Ceredigion schools were to close for the end of term on Tuesday, 22 December.

“In September, the council decided to use the 21st and 22nd as inset days, and therefore term will cease to pupils on Friday, 18 December.

“School staff have already worked their inset hours in twilight professional learning activities, and therefore will not need to work on 21 and 22 December.”

Powys and Pembrokeshire councils have also said their schools will also remain open until 18 December.

Ceredigion council also announced this afternoon that a contact group at New Quay Primary School has been told to self-isolate for 14 days following the confirmation of a Covid-19 case at the school.
