The heartwarming true story of two women moving to Trawsfynydd to run a business is told in a new book called ‘Does it Really Matter?’

Author Margaret Roberts’ first book, published in August 2026, has taken 25 years to produce. It tells the true story of Margaret’s journey of faith, moving from England later in life to help start a Bed & Breakfast with her business partner Penny.

Born and educated in Yorkshire, Margaret taught English and art in Warwick before moving to Saigon during the 1960s Vietnam work to work as a missionary, caring for orphaned children. Margaret has had much practise in seeking supernatural strength in adversity.

After meeting Penny at a Somerset Christian house party in 1965, the two eventually settled in North Wales in 1998, running a beloved Bed & Breakfast for 25 years.

The Bed & Breakfast was at Fron Oleu Farm, near Trawsfynydd, which is currently up for sale.

In her book, Margaret records the difficulties they encountered along the way to realising their dream, including being without a home on several occasions. The escapades and blunders are recounted with humour, and she lovingly describes the characterful menagerie of mischievous animals they also gathered around them.

In 2024 the business was brought abruptly to an end and when Margaret suffered a major stroke. What is remarkable is that, with support, she has managed to complete the book from her care home in Barmouth and arrange for its publishing.

‘Does is Really Matter?’ is about seeing God at work in everyday life in this corner of Wales and choosing to be led forward by Him. ‘Does it really matter’, she asks, ‘where you live if God is guiding you?’
