The UK has a population of approximately 66 million and around 52,700 have died “within 28 days of a positive test result”. This is not the same as saying they died because of Covid-19, as many people test positive with no symptoms and will have been admitted to hospital due to other illnesses.
Every year thousands die from flu and respiratory disease and they go unreported by the media.
All deaths are tragic, from any cause and yet Covid has been crowned king.
We are in real danger of losing our humanity due to this disproportionate fear. The sheer cruelty of loved ones not being allowed to visit or hug each other. People losing their jobs/businesses/homes. People having essential operations and treatments delayed or cancelled. Young people being stigmatised as silent killers, carrying disease.
I would argue that an exaggerated fear of Covid-19 is destroying the very heart of society.
