FRIENDS of a man who died in a fishing boat accident in the sea off Aberystwyth have come together to raise cash in his memory to help his grieving widow, who is battling cancer and financial difficulties.

Father-of-five Bill Davies, 64, died after a wave hit the boat he was in with his best friend Alan Jones.

Friends of Bill at the Liege Manor Equestrian Centre in Bonvilston in the Vale of Glamorgan are now hoping to raise funds for his wife Debbie with a charity event on Saturday.

Bill’s friends at the equestrian centre said: “We have taken on a mission here to raise funds for Bill and Debbie Davies.

“Bill was a best friend to Alan.

“He was 64 years of age when he tragically lost his life in a boat accident in Aberystwyth.

“Bill and his wife, Debbie, have had a struggle lately due to Debbie’s battle with breast cancer, amongst other things.

“As a result of Bill’s untimely death, Debbie had found herself in an unfortunate financial struggle.”

The Mission Spectacular event on Saturday starts at 6pm and entrance is £5 per person. There will be displays, a Pony Grand National and entertainment.

The aim is to £5,000 to go towards funeral costs and the RNLI.

Donations can be made in cash or via the Go Fund Me page at www.gofundme.com/2msvc7w.

Alan has told the Cambrian News that he was “in pieces”.

“He was like a dad to me and nothing will ever be the same without him,” Alan said.

Debbie told the Cambrian News Bill was her “soulmate”, and her “life.”

“Now he’s gone, nothing is the same,” she said.
