A CANCER recovery patient has travelled through Gwynedd and Ceredigion, raising over £70,000 for charity and opening a new shop along the way.
Businessman Rob Lloyd, who has appeared on Secret Millionaire and Real Housewives of Cheshire set off on his latest fundraising challenge on Friday, 3 December. The Grand Tour of Wales - running, cycling and walking 379 miles from Wrexham to Newport over 10 consecutive days, saw him arrive in Dolgellau on Monday, 6 December and in Aberystwyth on Tuesday, 7 December.
Rob took on the tour to raise money for the disability charity Sense, and on Wednesday he officially opened their new shop in Aberystwyth.
In March this year, the 57-year-old revealed that he’d been treated for lymphoma and was launching his Sense-less Challenge to help people with complex disabilities.
Lloyd has already undertaken numerous crazy challenges including marathons, skydiving James Bond style; joining the SAS for a gruelling weekend of physical activity; scaling the Three Peaks and abseiling blindfolded down The Orbit - the UK’s tallest sculpture, dressed in his ‘uniform’ orange tights and a purple tutu.
“After having lymphoma and then undertaking really physical challenges at least once a month has been tough,” he said. “But this challenge, which is 10 consecutive days of running, walking and cycling, won’t give me any recovery time so it’s going to be especially hard on my body which has been severely punished since March when I started Rob’s Sense-Less Challenge.
The money Rob raises will go towards the cost of a new centre to help families with complex disabilities in Denbigh, Wales.
Rob travelled to Merthyr Tydfil last Thursday, 9 December, before heading to Ebbw Vale.
The final day, Saturday, 11 December, saw Rob travelling to Newport before heading home.
Rob’s Sense-less Challenge, which has raised £73,783 so far, concludes in March 2022.
