Ruth Jones is an avid supporter of libraries and their place in the community and has readily agreed to come to Llandysul to show her support for the event which starts at 11.30am.
“It’s a very simple event” said volunteer Jane Kerr, a keen member of the supporters group from the beginning.
“There’ll be a speech, the cutting of the ribbon and then cakes and refreshments in the adjoining church hall. But we want everyone to know that our library is open and that is thanks to our volunteers.”
The volunteers have been running the library since 1 March.
“Every session we are open, there are a pair of volunteers and during March a librarian has been here to give them training,” said Lesley Parker, chair of the Llandysul Library Supporters’ Group.
“From April, we’ll truly be running the library, although new volunteers will still get training from a professional librarian.”
It’s been over two years since Ceredigion County Council first announced that they could not keep the library in Llandysul open and that it would be replaced by a library van unless the community took it over.
In light of this news, and with other buildings, shops, and services closing or leaving Llandysul, residents of the town as well as people living in the surrounding villages protested against this decision.
