A PWLLHELI heavy metal band, which lost its practice venue just before a national music competition, went on to win and scoop a £1,000 cash prize.

Redwood Avenue, which consists of Bryn Conin, Jamie Clark, Dan Jones, Mitchell Williams and Aled Evans, were asked to leave their practice venue at the Brownies building on North Quay in Pwllheli last month because of noise complaints from nearby neighbours.

The band feared this would scupper their chances of taking part in the final of the UK-wide Battle of the Bands competition.

However, following an appeal in the Cambrian News for a new venue, they were offered a place to practice at Llannor Village Hall.

They were able to keep their place in the competition, which they were thrilled to win over the weekend.

Lead singer Aled says the band is overwhelmed with the amount of support they have received in finding a new practice venue and throughout the competition.

He said: “The band would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone who has been behind us over the past few months, and to those who have been there since day one.

“The support has been awesome.

“The competition was a tough and we’re so excited to have won it."
