A CHARITY in Machynlleth working to improve the emotional wellbeing of people in the area is appealing for help to expand its services.
CAMAD (Community Action in Machynlleth and District) already runs a mental health support group called Pathways, but wants to apply for funding to be able to continue and expand the project to meet the needs of more people.
A 2016 report from the Mental Health Foundation highlighted a significant lack of mental health support services in rural Wales, and CAMAD has heard about this lack directly from the members of the support group.
“Many people tell us that they’ve been on a waiting list for talking therapy for months,” says Miriam Davies, co-ordinator of CAMAD’s mental health support group.
“This means that projects like ours are vital to people who are struggling emotionally.”
The support group offers a safe and welcoming space to have a cup of tea and a chat with people who are in similar situations, or to take part in therapeutic activities such as making art or playing music.
CAMAD is asking people to help them with the process of securing more funding and helping more people, by completing a quick anonymous survey.
You can find the survey at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/2VMYMKF
Organisers want to hear from everyone, whether or not you identify as having a mental health or an emotional wellbeing issue.
