AN ABERAERON councillor has said the town’s sole remaining health surgery’s move to appointments-only is ’inevitable’.
Tanyfron Surgery, which introduced the new system from 2 July, is near-capacity and has around 7,500 patients on its books.
“There’s a feeling they cannot recruit because young doctors will not work in an open surgery,” said Cllr Elizabeth Evans.
“I heard that when a doctor went off sick recently the others were still working there until 1.30am.
“The whole system is changing which I think is understandable because it was not sustainable the way it was.
“A new phone system is also in place – inevitably there will be teething troubles, but I don’t think they have any choice.”
