Health chiefs have admitted that community nurses and midwives in Llandysul have been left to work out of their cars after plans for the former Teifi Surgery to be used as their new base stalled over delays to a lease agreement.

There has been criticism of the health board after it emerged that community nurses and community midwives had been left without a dedicated base.

Comments on the Llandysul and Surrounding News Facebook group were highly critical of the health board for letting staff down.

A health board spokesperson admitted there had been problems in finalising the lease, but were hopeful that the problem would be addressed soon.

They said: “Teifi Surgery closed on 31 January and there has been a short delay in finalising the arrangements to lease the Teifi building as we aim to ensure services continue to be provided locally to the people of Llandysul and surrounding areas.

“We can now confirm that the licence agreement for the building has been signed by the health board and has been returned to the owners of the building for signature.

“A meeting will take place shortly to discuss further use of the building and its ownership.

“We recognise that in the interim some of our staff have been working in difficult circumstances and we are supporting the staff affected and keeping them informed.

“We would like to stress that not equipment of value or drugs are stored in these cars.”

Comments on the Facebook page said: “The health board failed to negotiate leasing the surgery building in time.

“The nurses have filled their car boots with equipment and now have no access to stocks and supplies, paperwork or phone lines.

“It is in the pipeline to take over the building, but for now they are on their own - with no guarantees of a base.”
