A MOBILE coronavirus testing centre has set up in Machynlleth today (Monday).

The drive-through testing centre opens today in Y Plas Car Park from 9.30am to 3.30pm daily and can be accessed by appointment-only for people with symptoms. These are a new continuous cough, high temperature (fever), loss of or change to sense of smell or taste.

The continued rotation of the units is part of a rolling programme of mobile testing to ensure residents have access to COVID-19 testing as close to home as possible.

The mobile testing facility will continue to move to other locations across Powys to help ensure people have access to testing unit where there is a need.

Residents can also access two further national testing centres in Newtown and Brecon, where you can walk, drive or cycle for a test, and an additional local testing unit in Built Wells for drive-through appointments.

Residents who are feeling symptoms but are unable to attend a mobile testing unit can request a Home Testing Kit, delivered to your home.

The mass vaccination programme is well underway across Powys, with front line health and care staff, carers, and people in the most vulnerable groups receiving their first dose of the vaccine.

Whilst the vaccine offers a good level of protection against the virus, people are reminded that if they show any signs and symptoms of Coronavirus, they must self-isolate and get a test immediately.

Appointments in Machynlleth, Knighton, Newtown and Brecon can be booked through the UK Government national booking portal, either online at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test, by phone on 119, or 18001 119 for people with hearing or speech difficulties. This is also the way to request a home testing kit.
