A HEARTY breakfast week on the Llyn Peninsula saw thousands of pounds donated to charity.

Caernarfonshire Farmers’ Union of Wales member Lowri Thomas presented Cancer Research Wales with a cheque worth £500 at the National Eisteddfod.

The money was raised during the FUW’s farmhouse breakfast week in January at Meillionydd Bach, Rhoshirwaun.

FUW Caernarfonshire CEO Gwynedd Watkin said: “The whole family including Huw Thomas (Lowri’s husband) and his brother Dei, made a tremendous effort to raise over £2,000 of which £500 was donated to Cancer Research Wales. The remaining £1,500+ was added to the president’s chosen charity BHF Cymru.

“I am very grateful to them for hosting the breakfast, which allowed us to raise such a fantastic amount of money.

“Cancer affects so many families throughout Wales, and almost everyone you talk to today knows someone who is or has suffered from the disease."

Lowri added: “The tremendous work that is done by Cancer Research Wales is appreciated by all and we are glad that we have been able to contribute towards their work.

“We’d like to thank everyone that came to the breakfast and to all those who couldn’t make it but still contributed either financially or by sponsoring the food as did many, many local businesses.”See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online on Thursday
