Llanidloes’ Millennium Garden is in the running to be named the UK’s favourite park after being nominated in the Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park competition.

The garden is one of 24 gardens in Wales nominated with 364 finalists across the UK in total, with a public vote now open to choose the winner.

The Millennium Garden won praise by judges for the role it plays in the Llanidloes community.

They said: “Small bit of heavenly peace in Llanidloes. Community garden made to celebrate the Millennium maintained and funded by volunteers group and used by all the community to sit, walk and picnic.

“Groups in the town use it for their activities, i.e Brownies, Guides, the school and the local resident’s home.”

The public vote is open until noon on Monday, 19 August and you can vote for the Millennium Garden by visiting www.fieldsintrust.org/best-park/wales/the-millennium-garden.

Winners from each country will battle it out for the overall UK title in September.

Fields in Trust chief executive Helen Griffiths said: “Our parks and green spaces are a vital part of UK community infrastructure.

“We know that they provide benefits to the physical health, mental wellbeing and community connections for people that use them, so we are delighted to see a record number of nominations for the UK’s Best Park award."
