THE book has not yet been closed on Llandysul Library, members of the campaign group fighting to save it from closure were told last week.

Llandysul Library Supporters Group were given a glimmer of hope when members of Ceredigion County Council’s scrutiny committee threw out a recommendation to axe the facility.

Having heard the group’s alternative plan to retain county library services, councillors agreed to defer a decision on the library’s future pending a full breakdown of costings.

They are also awaiting the outcome of key talks with the Church in Wales, who hold a 107-year lease on Canolfan Ceredigion where the library is housed.

“We are still trying to find a solution that will meet the needs of Llandysul,” said Cllr Dafydd Edwards who, as Cabinet member for information technology and customer services, has been spearheading discussions over the library’s future.

“No-one is closing any door and we are still looking for answers.

“I would love to keep the library open full time – no final decision has been made.”
