Editor: l have been writing to Ceredigion County Council about the state of Aberystwyth for many months and getting a similar response each time suggesting the “customer surveys on Aberystwyth” would argue that the town receives top reviews and top marks.

Now that the Cambrian News (Dirty old town, 31 August) has exposed the filth, squalor and disgusting state of the town, with 95 per cent of the respondents agreeing with them, the council might like to revisit this argument?

The Cambrian News also indicates that Ceredigion cannot do anything about it (Too skint to fix this dirty old town, 7 September) because they are lacking the resources to clean up the DOT?

Where do they find the money then for Aberaeron, New Quay, Cardigan and other Ceredigion towns?

I noticed that Ceredigion’s chief executive got a £15,000 pay rise in 2021 taking him to around £130,000, and that the two individuals below him are on £104,000, and the 12 below them on about £85,000 — taking the wage bill for 15 people to circa £1.3 million.

Ceredigion has a population of just 73,000. Do we need such an expensive top management board, or could we perhaps restructure gold command to perhaps silver or bronze and employ some worker bees, street cleaners for example? I would suggest Ceredigion restructure bottom up and not top down.

That way they might find some additional resource.
