Madam,

Congratulations on a well earned accolade for the excellent Cambrian News!

You are a highlight of my week (along with the Spectator...) and I am delighted to read that you have been named Weekly Newspaper of the Year 2019 in the Wales Media Awards.

I’m a postal subscriber, living far from Wales, but have visited the Mawddach estuary almost every year for the past 70 years (grew up in Birmingham, live now in Surrey).

My local weekly paper, the Surrey Herald, bit the dust some years ago. More than 50 years ago, my first job was as a general news reporter on the Walsall Observer - and that one is even longer gone.

We are always being told that the days of print journalism, in a predominantly digital age, are numbered - but, while there are weekly newspapers like the Cambrian News, I believe the inky trade is safe.

Go on doing, please, what you do so very well.

Yours etc, Jane Ward, Churchfields Avenue, Weybridge.
