Madam,

Ceredigion County Council is debating whether to close Bodlondeb residential home at Penparcau and I would like to ask the following questions and make the following comments.

If Bodlondeb is not at full capacity, why not?

Years of neglect of the building by the council means that the ratio between staff and residents is a high figure. Therefore it’s obvious that there would be an annual loss of apparently £400,000 per year. So the way I see it is that the council is responsible because a lot of the building can not be used due to a lack of investment over several years.

The way to swing this apparent heavy loss into a more acceptable figure is to invest with the support of the Welsh Government in modernisation so that the whole building can be used to support the older and needy residents.

Bodlondeb is desperately needed so that we don’t have to send people to other parts of the county away from their family, which means there can’t be regular visits.

Aberystwyth is the part of the county with the highest population and yet the county council apparently sees fit to threaten closure when it’s obviously needed to accomodate the future demand.

Yours etc,

Ray Blackburne, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
