Madam,

Robbing Peter to pay Paul?

On 5 September 2017, the Cabinet of Ceredigion County Council agreed to withdraw the long-time promised £30,000 to help repair and maintain the Memorial Hall in New Quay and to reduce any subsidy to the hall after 31 March 2018.

While I am pleased for the Tregaron community and wish them well in its venture, has Ceredigion County Council effectively “robbed Peter to pay Paul” and the future of the hall in New Quay become more uncertain? Is this another nail in the coffin of the village?

I notice that the Tregaron Leisure Centre trustees are mainly members of the local community who have got together to provide a community need. This is excellent.

Where are the corresponding business people, councillors and representatives in New Quay?

Yours etc, Dr Alwyn Davies, chairman, New Quay Memorial Hall Management Committee.
