I hope that it is not true, the whisper going around Aberystwyth is that Plascrug Leisure Centre is to be closed, as our leisure centre for up to five years.

We would therefore be left with an empty swimming pool, gymnasium, occupied hall for various activities, empty squash courts, outside area for various sports.

With so many others, I use the facilities under the Wales National Referable Scheme.I attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the benefits include a decrease in risk of heart disease, decrease in body fat, decrease in blood pressure, improvement in physiological function and an improvement in aerobic fitness, flexibility, muscle strength and endurance.

And all this under the watchful eye of qualified instructors.

Where would the children from primary schools learn to swim, with its obvious benefits?

Where would Aberystwyth and District Swimming Club go?

I saw the benefits as a trainer in the ’80s, galas throughout Wales and National Championships,Commonwealth Games.

I have previously suggested in the Cambrian News that Bodlondeb residential care home, which has now been empty for nearly four years, should, could and would be far better than Plascrug Leisure Centre with its 50 bedrooms, for patients from Bronglais Hospital, who need support from coronavirus and those who are bed blocking at the hospital.
