Madam,
I couldn’t agree more with your reader’s letter regarding the litter-strewn hedges of the A487 between Aberystwyth and Bow Street; it’s an absolute disgrace and more akin to driving in a north African country.
Having just returned from a country where ratepayers’ money is actually spent for the betterment of the community it’s a stark reminder of the follies of this council in Aberaeron where huge sums of money have been squandered with private companies like Pricewaterhouse Cooper to produce spurious cost-saving reports and left ratepayers with under-funded and totally inadequate council services like bin and litter collection which we all should be able to take for granted.
Like your correspondent Jean Hewitt, I have also experienced the “stonewalling” when writing to Ceredigion Council on questions of policy on other issues; but then the leader of the council has herself a prevalence to avoid answering questions from the “troublesome ratepayers in Aberystwyth” and of course that even more troublesome investigatory journalist on TV, but that’s another story.
Yours etc,
Tony Clark, Blaenddol, Bow Street, Aberystwyth.
