There may be no traditional Eisteddfod in Tregaron this year, but plans are underway for a huge party for the whole of Wales during the first weekend of August.
Organised as part of this year’s Eisteddfod AmGen, Eisteddfod Gudd, sponsored by Aberystwyth University, will stream live, free of charge.
Running from mid-afternoon until late evening this Saturday, live bands include Band Pres Llareggub, giving us a taste of their new album out in August, Los Blancos, Alffa, and pop princesses, Eden headlining.
Sunday, 1 August switches to a more relaxed mode, with Encore and T? Gwerin.
Among the performers are Welsh of the West End, Rhys Taylor Band, Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita and Côr-ona.
Everything will be streamed live on the Eisteddfod’s YouTube channel and website from Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s outdoor stage. A limited number of tickets to join the audience are available to buy from the arts centre. Visit their website or call the box office.
Eisteddfod chief executive Betsan Moses said: “We’re so looking forward to the Eisteddfod Gudd; we can’t wait to see bands, performers and artists on a real stage, and to feel that we’re actually at a real Eisteddfod!
“So, throw on your festival clothes, grab your Eisteddfod glass, and let’s get together – separately – for the biggest party since the Conwy County Eisteddfod in Llanrwst. It’s been far too long, and it’s time for a big party. And do let us know where you’ll be watching and listening to the Eisteddfod Gudd!”
Cyngerdd yr Eisteddfod Gudd will be shown on S4C at 9.30pm on Thursday, 5 August.
