During the last week I had been staying with friends near Aberystwyth,at Llanilar.

My first Saturday night, we braved the monsoon and had a trip out to the arts centre to be “entertained” by Josh Widdicombe. The arts centre is a great venue and we had a good seat/view in the Great Hall.

I would like to point out that fortunately living in England, I had the NHS app on my phone and could prove that I had been double jabbed (and when) as it was his was not really clear on the email , when the tickets were purchased, that this would be needed. Luckily one of my friends had their vaccination card.

The bar also needs to employ more staff, as there was a long queue.

The show should have started at 8pm. At 8.15pm we were subjected to a warm up act, which was poorly scripted, dated and not funny in my opinion.

I thought well at least when Josh appears things should improve..However, Mr Widdicombe didn’t tickle my funny bone either.

After moaning about his rail journey (which I had done the day before, and found delightful- I live in the Fens where a pothole counts in a drop in height) he then relied on audience participation.

I have no interest in “Sarah’s age, occupation, where’s she from etc”, I had expected vibrant humour based on current affairs, and Mr Widdicome’s cultural reference points (which he admitted) did not chime with the audience’s either.

After 15 minutes maximum, he then advised that there would be a break.

We made a collective decision, not to endure the second half , braved the rain returned home to a fine red wine, comforting food and something really funny on Netflix.
